Denise has 20 years of grooming experience. She is the owner of Awesome Paws and strives to provide a healthy working environment that promotes the growth of her employees to be able to provide the best and most up to date care to all our clients. She is training to be a Certified Master Cat Groomer through Professional Cat Groomers’ Association of America, is an active member of the International Pet Groomers Association, and International School of Canine Cosmetology. She loves competing and has taken 1st and 2nd placements in “Rescue Me” Rodeos. She loves grooming all breeds, but especially enjoys terriers and cats. When not grooming, running her business and being a super-mom, Denise works with the local pet pantry to help with donations, and attends events to aid local pet charities.  She is owned by her Pit Bull, Parker and Standard Poodle, Bentley.

Sam has been grooming for almost 10 years. She started grooming under the apprenticeship of Denise as a bather and has worked her way up to becoming an experienced, knowledgeable groomer. She hopes to continue her education in pet nutrition and learn more about skin and coat health to help her clients with allergies and be able to educate our clients about ways to prevent them. She is training to become a Certified Cat Groomer and is a member of the International School of Canine Cosmetology. She works well with dogs with behavioral issues and loves to help them overcome their grooming fears and build trust. She was awarded Best in Show for safe and gentle handling in her fist “Rescue Me” Rodeo and took 2nd place with a husky in “Rescue Me” Rodeo. Her favorite breeds to groom are big hairy double coats like Huskies, Malamutes, and Old English Sheepdogs, and Samoyeds. She also loves to groom Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, Bernadoodles and Bichons and giving her haircut dogs a fluffy floppy more natural style. When she isn’t grooming she loves to travel and go on road trips with her husband to as many new places as they can, going hiking with her dogs and getting lost in a book. Sam is owned by her Golden Retriever Sawyer, Husky Leoben and Pit Bull Skyler, in addition to her cat Holly, and two rats!

Jess attended the MCCC for Animal Care and is currently enrolled in the Vet Tech program at Tri-C. She hopes to acquire more standard breed haircut clients and improve her grooming speed. She has competed in “Rescue Me” Rodeo and placed 3rd. Her favorite breed to groom are Huskies. When she’s not grooming or doing school work, Jess likes to go hiking, work on scrapbooks, and read. She is owned by her husky Meeko, border collie Miley, a cat, two chinchillas and an axolotl.

Patty Heugel


Patty has been around and worked with dogs her entire life. Her patience and understanding of dogs with behavioral issues led to her volunteering at suburban shelters and working with private companion animal rescues. Patty loves seeing a rescue dogs come out of their shell and enjoy life. She is owned by her Shih Tzu/Jack Russell Terrier mix Sadie.

Nicole Lough

Pet Stylist

Nicole has two years of grooming experience, has been in the pet industry for 6 years and is an active member of the International Society of Canine Cosmetologists. She has been learning so much here at Awesome Paws and hopes to continue her grooming education to be proficient, face paced and give great grooms to all her clients! Her favorite breed to groom are poodles and she loves to style round heads. Outside of work, she likes to spend time with her human children and her friends. Nicole is owned by her four cats, Opruhh, Gingy, Cloudzie and Cambria and three dogs, Jupiter, Schmidt, and Chugs.

Lauryn Morris


Lauryn has been grooming about a year and attended the TCTC for animal science. She hopes to increase her grooming expertise and enter more grooming competitions! She has competed at the state FFA convention for junior grooming and placed 1st overall in individuals. Her favorite breeds to groom are poodles and double coated or wire coated dogs. She loves clean poodle feet and terrier breed standard cuts! Outside of work she loves to paint and do abstract art, go to local concerts and play video games. Lauryn is owned by her two cats, Peaches and Piff.
